Adaeze Ekwueme invited to speak on people-first PPPs to achieve SDGs 2030 at UN office in Geneva. ‘People’ must be the priority and main beneficiary of all PPP projects. Focus should be on improving quality of life, fighting poverty and hunger, promoting wellbeing and gender equality, increasing access to water and energy and lastly creating local sustainable jobs. How effective is the public sector in presenting projects to promote the “public interest”? There appears to be a trend for legacy/ego projects in urban areas to get funding whereas high potential projects in rural communities that can create shared value and deliver greater social/economic profits are never proposed.
